What is anchor text?
Anchor text is the visible text of a blue hyperlink, “anchoring” the hyperlink in words and characters. For example, this is what anchor text looks like. Anchor text should clue the reader into what they might find by clicking. There are many types of anchor text, which include exact match, partial match, hybrid anchor text, and others. Anchor text can point to deep links within a domain or to external links outside the domain.
What are some good anchor text practices?
It’s commonly agreed that exact match anchor text, such as http://www.anchortext.com/thisiswhatexactmatchanchortextlookslike is not good linkbuilding practice, and that partial match and hybrid anchor text are better since Google’s 2013 Penguin update looked at the quality of links.
